Company takes steps to future-ready its supply chain.

Premier Nutrition is the first UK company of its kind to receive the globally recognised Food Safety System Certificate (FSSC 22000).

The accreditation recognises attention to quality and safety by the manufacturer of equine and farm animal premixes

“We’re continually challenging ourselves to improve our offering to customers, ensuring both livestock and companion animal feeds are fit for both today and the future,” said Jane Ratcliffe, technical services manager at Premier Nutrition.

“We’re the first and only premix producer in the UK sector to receive this level of certification, over and above the well-known Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS).

“The whole team is immensely proud to have achieved such stringent criteria, otherwise only seen in the human food industry to-date.”

Mrs Ratcliffe believes the trade will in future request high levels of transparency as far back as feed raw materials.

“This is why we’ve taken steps to ensure our whole supply chain is future-ready by meeting human grade food standards now,” she says.

On top of the paperwork required for the accreditation, an in-person audit was carried out to ensure Premier Nutrition met the FSSC criteria. Annual audits are subsequently to be conducted.

This is as relevant to equine brands as it is to the production of feeds for farm animals, according to Premier Nutrition’s senior equine nutritionist Ruth Bishop.

“Our principal commitment is to produce safe and accurate products.  A high level of focus on responsible supply chains is fundamental to this, and the FSSC certification demonstrates our firm commitment to understanding the provenance of the ingredients we use,” she said.

“The certification also provides important support for our equine business customers managing the risk of prohibited substances.”
