RDA NEEDS DONATIONS OF FEED AND RUGS

The RDA has appealed for donations of feed and rugs as its groups face rising costs

“This winter is especially difficult,” says charity.

Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) has appealed for support as rising costs of fuel, feed and electricity hit the charity particularly hard this winter.

Hundreds of RDA Groups across the UK help thousands of disabled adults and children. But many are reporting financial difficulties.

In some cases, evening sessions are being cancelled as the cost lighting indoor arenas has become unaffordable.

The outlook is worrying, says Sarah Healing from the Hertfordshire based Penniwells RDA Group. “With the cost of living forever rising, going forward we are worried about how we will survive,” she added.

Despite the difficulties, RDA policy is to ensure that no corners are cut when it comes to horse welfare and participant or rider safety.
As well as appealing for financial donations, RDA Groups are grateful for gifts in kind, such as bags of horse feed or winter rugs.

“I want people to know that any gift, small or large will make a real difference. We make every penny count,” says Rachel Medill, RDA UK chair of Trustees.

As the mother of one regular young participant said: “Henry’s RDA session every week makes him really happy. He beams with joy, he’s more flexible, he’s more focused and he’s just so happy.”
