We reveal how it came about…

A chance meeting at last year’s BETA international has led to a UK supplier doing new business with an Indonesian retailer.

Hannah Saskya Bingei and her team from retailer Equine Resources Indonesia visited Equilibrium Product’s Buckinghamshire base following a chance meeting at last year’s BETA International.

Equilibrium Products, a long-time exhibitor at the trade show, is now exporting products from its equine nutrition, protection and therapy ranges to Equine Resources Indonesia

The retailer, with a store in Jakarta, is at the forefront of the country’s burgeoning horse industry.

Proprietor Hannah Saskya Bingei set up the business after studying equine science and sports science in the UK at Edinburgh and Hartpury universities.

She also hosts a series of podcasts and videos covering equine management and care.

Chance meeting

The Equine Resources Indonesia team called into Equilibrium Products’ stand on a visit to BETA International last September. They’ve since visited the supplier’s HQ in Buckinghamshire – and placed orders.

Hannah Donnelly, head of international sales at Equilibrium Products aims to keep the momentum going with a visit to Jakarta later in the year.

“We’re planning to go in November,” she said. “We’re at Equitana in Melbourne so it’s very close in relative terms.

“It will be great to see their new shop. They are lovely people and really nice to work with.”

Shared mission

Indonesia has around 394,000 horses but is comparatively new to the international competition scene with just 89 horses and 67 athletes registered with the FEI (international horse sports body).

Scope for growth is clear, says Hannah Donnelly. She understands from the team at Equine Resources Indonesia that there are plenty of people in the country interested in importing competition horses.

However, this new supplier/retailer relationship is about more than sales.

“Equine Resources Indonesia’s mission is very much like ours in terms of spreading education and promoting horse welfare,” said Hannah Donnelly.

Equine Resources India is an overseas retail member of the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA).

Equilibrium Products exports to 26 countries and has wholesalers in Europe, South Africa, the US and Australia.
