Grand opening planned for September.
GO Outdoors – the owner of Naylors Equestrian – is opening what’s claimed to be Europe’s “biggest ever outdoor retail shop.”
The 125,000 sq ft retail premises in York is at the site of the former John Lewis store in the city’s Vangarde Park.
Horse riding products are set to feature alongside brands for walking, camping, watersports, running, fishing and climbing. The superstore has a café too.
The new GO Outdoors outlet is due to begin trading on 23 August. A grand opening weekend is scheduled for 7/8 September.
GO Outdoors acquired Naylors Equestrian in autumn 2020.
Naylors has continued to operate through its three stores in Rochdale, Nantwich and Cannock and via its existing website.
At the time of the acquisition, GO Outdoors said it would introduce Naylors Equestrian concessions to its megastores.
GO Outdoors is part of J D Sports Fashion Plc.
Naylors was established in 1965 by Derrick Naylor. Naylors Saddlery, as it was then known, began with a shop in Norden, Rochdale, selling saddlery and riding clothing.
In 2007, the Atkinson family acquired the business, re-named it Naylors Equestrian and developed its three stores and website.
