Famous rider says it’s “an incredible idea.”
An online directory of saddle, bit, bridle and harness fitters has been launched to riders and horse owners.
The Equine Fitters Directory, established by the Saddlers’ and Loriners’ Companies, is an independent, searchable database of tack fitters. It’s free for consumers to access. Fitters pay £47.50 to be listed.
To be included in the directory, equine fitters must be validated and meet the listing criteria set by the Equine Fitters Council.
Listed fitters must hold insurance, pursue continued professional development, and agree to abide by the Equine Fitters Council Code of Conduct and complaints procedure.
Top riders’ endorsement
Eventing hero William Fox Pitt and para-dressage star Natasha Baker attended the Equine Fitters Directory consumer launch event at Saddlers Hall on 3 February.
William presented certificates to 44 recently qualified saddle, bridle and bit fitters. He then joined a panel of experts to discuss the importance of choosing the right qualified fitter.
“We know that regularly checked and well fitted tack both improve the welfare of our horses and their overall performance,” said William.
“I can reflect on numerous times in my career when even small alterations to match the ever-changing size and shape of my horse has made a fundamental difference.
“Having a ‘one stop’ online directory that lists professional fitters that all riders and horse owners can trust must be the right thing.”
Natasha Baker said the directory was “an incredible idea.”
