Vetpol has become the third body approved to maintain a register of SQPs.
An SQP [suitably qualified person] is a someone proven to be competent and legally allowed to prescribe, supply and advise on the safe use of certain categories of veterinary medicines, including worming and flea treatments.
Vetpol’s recognition, confirmed by the VMD on Friday (24 January), means the body has demonstrated it can fulfil the requirements of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations.
Vetpol joins the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA) and VetSkill as the third body approved to maintain a register of SQPs.
AMTRA recently proposed formally changing the title SQP to RAMA (Registered Animal Medicines Advisor). This would better reflect and recognise the role of these qualified professionals, it said.
