Group had already “built strong momentum.”
An animal health industry body has taken on the CANTER initiative which was launched to tackle wormer resistance.
Controlling ANTiparasitic resistance in Equines Responsibly (CANTER) is now working with the Responsible Use of Medicines Alliance – Companion Animal and Equine (RUMA CA&E).

RUMA CA&E was set up in 2020 to define the principles of responsible use of medicines in the equine and companion animal sectors.
CANTER was established by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) just over two years ago.
“CANTER has made significant strides in coordinating efforts to safeguard the efficacy of worming treatments for the future,” said a spokesperson for the campaign.
“With the VMD’s governance role now concluded, CANTER is entering a new phase under the stewardship of RUMA CA&E which has stepped in to provide governance, financial management and administrative support.”
Julia Shrubb, a core steering group member, is now interim chair of CANTER.
“Thanks to the collaborative spirit and shared commitment of all involved, CANTER has built strong momentum, particularly with the publication of the CANTER Guidelines for sustainable equine parasite control,” she said.
“With the steadfast support of RUMA CA&E, we are confident that this progress will continue. Together, we remain dedicated to advancing responsible practices that address the critical challenge of anthelmintic resistance in equines.”
