Local production and waste reduction pay off.
Dengie has achieved green status with a national environmental accreditation scheme for a second year running.
Investors in the Environment, owned and run by the environmental charity PECT, audits organisations’ ecological management systems before handing out awards.
Essex based Dengie was founded in 1968 as a farmers’ cooperative, and still grows many of its ingredients locally. The alfalfa it uses in many of its feeds, for example, is grown within 20 miles of its production plant.
Dengie says it has worked hard to drive down carbon emissions and recycle as much unavoidable waste as possible.
The company has also undertaken projects to enhance the environment and support staff wellbeing, as well as the local community.
“Sustainability is inherent in everything we do at Dengie, and our recent achievements reflect the importance we place on continually striving to be more efficient,” said managing director Ian Hassard.
“Achieving green status with Investors in the Environment again this year is great recognition of all the work the team does to ensure we continue to produce the highest quality feeds in harmony with the environment.”
