Big-name equestrian brand had a humble beginning.
Mackey Equestrian – which marks its 35th anniversary this year – is to celebrate by launching a series of limited-edition own brand items.
The company was founded in 1989 by Ernest and Samantha Mackey.
It initially operated from old buildings on the couple’s farm in Co Wicklow, Ireland.
Mackey Equestrian began as an agency alongside manufacturing nylon products by hand on-site. As demand grew, production of own label lines was completely out-sourced by 2000.
The following year saw Mackey’s warehousing relocate to a purpose-built warehouse. By 2003, its manufacturing had moved overseas and Mackey rugs were in circulation.
The first print edition of the Mackey Equestrian catalogue was released in 2007/8. It’s still published today.
In 2018, Monaghan based wholesaler Agrihealth acquired the Mackey business.
Today, Mackey Equestrian represents brands such as Mackey, Equi-Sential, Liveryman, leovet and Waldhausen.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their continued support over the years,” said Sara Davis on behalf of Mackey Equestrian.
More details on the 35th anniversary limited-edition lines will be available soon.
