The influential German Association of the Sports Goods (known as the BSI) and Koelnmesse – home of the spoga trade fairs – have ended their long-standing partnership.
The collaboration which began in 1974 finished on 31 December with an announcement that “the BSI e.V and Koelnmesse are terminating their long-standing cooperation for the events spoga horse and spoga+gafa.”
In future, said a statement from the exhibition centre in Cologne, Germany, “Koelnmesse is going to rely more than ever on the personal and direct contact to all of the customer groups for the alignment of spoga horse.”
Thanking the BSI, Koelnmesse’s vice president Catja Caspary described the upcoming spoga fairs as “writing a new chapter”, adding: “We… will of course remain in close exchange with the member companies of BSI."
Speaking to ETN, Koelnmesse director Ines Rathke said that while the BSI did not subsidise spoga horse, it had acted as the fairs’ conceptual sponsor “with a direct influence in their strategic development.”
The new arrangement will not change costs or services for exhibitors at upcoming spoga fairs, she added.
