“We’re proud to have served the local community.”

Attlee’s Country Store in Dorking will be closing its doors for the final time on Christmas Eve.

The difficult decision has been made as the lease for the store’s premises comes to an end, say the proprietors.

Attlee’s has traded in the Surrey town for more than 200 years.

“We’re immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout the years,” said Fred Walker of Attlee’s Country Store.

“Although this is a sad goodbye, we’re proud to have served the local community and want to thank our retail colleagues and customers alike.”

Customers are being encouraged to visit the store before its final day of trading on 24 December to take advantage of the remaining stock, and discuss alternative suppliers of horse feed and bedding.

Attlee’s Country Store was originally a corn merchant, established in 1788. Its founder John Attlee was the great-grandfather of Clement Attlee, the UK’s Prime Minister from 1945 to 1951.

In 1973, Attlee’s was purchased by W.M. Lillico & Son.
