“It’s great to work for a company that’s got your back in areas that matter to you personally.”
Kate Hore, head nutritionist at NAF, shed a few tears when she crossed the finish line of the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
She ran the 13-miles in 2hrs 43mins in memory of her late father, Stuart Jones, and to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK.
“It was my biggest challenge to date,” said Kate of her endeavours on 7 April, and for a charity very close to my heart.
“I was running for Parkinson’s UK, as we lost my dad to this horribly cruel disease, which so desperately needs more research funding to allow people to live better with Parkinson’s and, hopefully, one day find a cure.”
High-fives and jelly babies
Kate says that running the London Landmarks Half Marathon was “my first – and quite possibly last – attempt at any such distance.
“It was a fantastic event and a unique experience to see some of London’s best-known landmarks from the viewpoint of a runner on closed roads,” she added.
“Hearing thousands of spectators shouting your name (on your t-shirt) and encouraging you along – some offering high-fives or jelly babies – was just such a boost. It really spurred me on.
“It was really quite emotional, and I must admit to a few tears once I crossed the finish line.”
Funding support at head office
Kate says she’s been “so touched by support from not only friends and family, but also industry friends and colleagues.”
The team at NAF head office held a fund-raising brownies and biscuits sale and parent company AB Agri has donated some “very generous” match funding.
“It’s great to work for a company where you really feel they’ve got your back, right across the business,” said Kate. “Not only at work but in areas that matter to you personally too.”
Kate says she’d be so grateful to any industry colleagues who would like to support her. Donations can be made at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kate-hore3
